Synovitis

HIDE

0:00

<v ->Now it's normal to have small synovial villi.

0:04

They too are finger-like structures.

0:06

They contain synovium, and in some cases,

0:09

they may even look like small synovial folds.

0:13

But what occurs when we deal with a synovitis

0:15

is that the synovium thickens and becomes edematous,

0:19

and these villi become larger and more numerous.

0:23

And they are composed of a variety of tissues,

0:26

which we'll discuss in another lecture in this course,

0:30

but it may be fat,

0:32

may be cellular or acellular fibrous tissue.

0:35

It could be fibrous nodules.

0:37

Here, you see an example I'm showing you

0:39

on an intermediate and T2 weighted fat suppressed images

0:44

what abnormal villi look like.

0:47

These are synovial folds.

0:49

You can see in this case, most of the signal

0:52

is of intermediate signal intensity within those folds.
