Case: Expert Witness - Missed Lung Liposarcoma on CTA Scout

HIDE

0:00

This is another case that I was involved in.

0:03

So this is a CTA on

0:04

A patient with history of dizziness and headaches.

0:07

Uh, so CTAs, and this is the scout film of the CTA.

0:11

The CTA was normal

0:12

and was read as normal,

0:14

so there was nothing wrong with that.

0:16

Uh, but on the scout Image you can see that there is

0:21

Elevation of the hemi diaphragm

0:23

or there is a, uh, opacity in the left,

0:27

uh, lung, which

0:29

Obviously was not called.

0:31

So I had, I showed this, this scout image

0:35

and, and gave the exact

0:36

Same history to

0:39

About eight or nine of our neuroradiologist

0:42

Here in our department. And

0:44

None Of them said that they would be

0:46

commenting on this,

0:48

Barring a one person who said that he

0:51

Might have. So,

0:53

So really very hard.

0:54

So this is truly, truly a blind spot

0:58

when we are reading our radiological,

1:01

Uh, scans.

1:03

Uh, looking at the scout images.

1:05

Some people do, but most people do not

1:08

Look at the scout images. And this was very

1:11

Unfortunate For this patient.

1:13

Uh, and uh, this is a scan

1:16

S seven years after.

1:18

Now you can see that there is big, huge density in

1:21

that left hemithorax.

1:23

Uh, there's a shift of the mediastinum,

1:25

and then finally the CT was obtained.

1:27

You could see this big, huge, uh, lipos sar,

1:31

uh, in this patient. But

1:33

So how are, how do we want

1:36

to correct these mistakes, uh, from being made?
