Course Description

Over the course of your career in radiology, there’s a likelihood you may be named in a suit. This is driven by the accessibility of imaging data, limited direct patient interaction, and improved technology that can expose subtle abnormalities. Join medicolegal experts in this medicolegal primer series as they offer practical guidance on navigating risk, improving diagnostic safety, and understanding key medicolegal topics such as vicarious liability, employment contracts, and expert witness responsibilities.

In this course, Dr. David Yousem and Kelly Yousem offer a comprehensive look at the roles, responsibilities, and ethical considerations of serving as an expert witness.

Dr. Yousem discusses key topics such as the ACR Practice Parameter, the ethics of medical testimony, standards of care, fair compensation, and practical tips for reviewing cases, testifying, and working with attorneys.

Kelly Yousem, a Plaintiff’s attorney, complements this perspective by exploring the ethics of expert testimony from a legal standpoint, how attorneys engage expert witnesses, the obligations of both parties under oath, and strategies for handling cross-examination and courtroom challenges.

The course concludes with Dr. Majid Khan’s insights on serving as an expert witness, including a case-based review of his experience and lessons he’s learned along the way.
