Lateral Extra Articular Tenodesis

0:00

So briefly.

0:01

Um, but let's talk about lateral extra articular tenodesis.

0:05

Like I said, these were initially

0:06

studied back in the sixties.

0:08

These were thought, uh,

0:10

to reduce ant lateral rotary instability

0:12

and anterior tibial translation.

0:15

But the literature has been all over the place.

0:17

There's no, no good long-term outcomes.

0:20

And again, this may have to, this may have to do

0:23

with the non anatomic positioning of these, uh,

0:26

tenodesis procedures.

0:28

Uh, as I said earlier, these might be over constrained,

0:31

leaning to failures,

0:32

but again, there's been renewed interest from this newly

0:35

discovered a LL or mid third lateral capsular ligament.

0:39

And like I said, our orthopedic surgeons are not doing, um,

0:42

these very much if at all.

0:45

Um, and here's all the different types of procedures

0:48

that have been, um, described in the literature

0:51

since the 1960s.

0:52

It was a nice review it 2016,

0:54

showing all the different types of procedures.

0:57

Some of them use split thickness grafts

0:59

of the u tibial band.

1:01

Um, some of them may use, uh, split thickness grafts

1:04

of the patellar tendon.

1:05

But you can see that these are quite creative in the

1:08

different types of reconstructions

1:10

of the antal lateral ligament and the anterolateral complex.
