Rapidly Destructive Hip Disease

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

<v ->The next entity I would just quickly talk about

0:03

is called rapidly destructive hip disease.

0:06

Originally described as a variety of osteoarthrosis,

0:11

it doesn't look like osteoarthrosis.

0:14

We see this in elderly persons, more often a woman, okay?

0:19

And what we see is a joint that has maybe

0:22

early joint space loss

0:24

and then in a period of weeks or months,

0:27

rapid dissolution of bone,

0:30

disorganization of the joint.

0:34

And there are many proposed causes,

0:36

osteoarthrosis, osteonecrosis, insufficiency fractures,

0:41

crystal depositions, certain medications, all right.

0:45

We don't know exactly why this occurs.

0:49

But there are some who believe

0:50

this relates to an insufficiency fracture.

0:53

Here are pictures taken from an article not too long ago,

0:58

about 15 years ago in AJR,

1:02

in which they believed

1:03

they were looking at insufficiency fracture

1:06

with rapidly destruction of the hip.
