FDG Case: Solitary Pulmonary Nodule

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

This is a 62-year-old female that was enrolled

0:04

on lung cancer screening

0:06

because she is a current smoker

0:09

with a 40 pack year smoking history.

0:12

On the prior lung cancer screening,

0:14

an A speculated nodule in the right upper lobe was found.

0:18

This nodule had multiple speculations

0:23

and a follow-up was recommended as this was suspicious

0:27

for malignant nodule.

0:29

The follow-up CT showed an interval growth

0:33

and increase in density of these nodule

0:36

with a more defined speculations and

0:38

therefore an FDG PTT was requested

0:42

for further evaluation of this nole as well as staging.

0:47

Here we have the FDG PET for this patient

0:50

and we're gonna focus the discussion on the

0:52

most relevant findings.

0:54

On the ME images, you can already see where the site

0:58

of abnormality is, which is that lung nodule.

1:01

Taking a closer look, we can see that the nodule

1:06

of concern shows intense FDG uptake

1:09

with an SUV max of 6.1.

1:13

In this case, there was no suspicion

1:17

for noal involvement in the hila or mediastinum,

1:22

and there was no evidence of disease outside of the

1:28

intra thoracic findings.

1:30

In this case, the morphologic features, as well

1:33

as the intense tracer uptake were highly concerning.

1:37

This patient underwent a biopsy

1:39

and these turned out to be an adenocarcinoma.

1:43

They also sampled the

1:46

lymph nodes in the mediastinum in multiple stations,

1:49

and they were all negative confirming the findings we have

1:52

seen on our PET ct.
