Sinonasal Undifferentiated Carcinoma on MRI

HIDE
PrevNext

0:01

This is an example of a Cy nasal differentiated carcinoma.

0:05

You see the cysts pulse sequence, the vibe pulse sequence,

0:09

and the post gadolinium vibe pulse sequence.

0:13

And as with most of these malignancies, you see

0:16

that it's a lesion as dark on the T two wave scan.

0:20

It's intermediate on T.

0:21

One way it scan and it shows avid contrast enhancement.

0:24

In this case, it has some cystic areas within it

0:28

that is a little bit unusual for

0:31

most squamous cell carcinomas.

0:33

You notice. However, the most importantly is the involvement

0:36

once again of the tealium fossa.

0:38

Here are the tego plates.

0:40

Here is the mass in the tego palatine fossa.

0:44

You can see the growth to the

0:46

masticator space via the tego maxillary fissure.

0:49

You can see the involvement here of the skull base

0:52

as the frame

0:54

and rotund showing contrast enhancement along

0:57

this maxillary nerve.

0:59

Contrast that with the contralateral side,

1:02

and there is also involvement in the eroded portion

1:06

of the Vian canal.

1:09

This lesion also has involvement

1:10

of the orbit on the right side, with also involvement

1:15

of the inferior orbital fissure as you see there.

1:19

So another example of a cancer

1:22

that is growing into the tega palatine fossa,

1:25

but does not have specifically a predilection

1:28

for perineural spread like adenoid cystic carcinoma does.

1:33

And again, just to emphasize, there isn't really specific

1:37

imaging features of this cancer

1:39

that would suggest a Cy nasal

1:42

and differentiated carcinoma as opposed to a

1:44

squamous cell carcinoma.
