Polyposis on MRI

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

Sometimes there is overlap of the imaging features

0:04

of allergic fungal sinusitis and polyposis.

0:09

In this case, we have a patient

0:11

who has on T one weight imaging hyperintense secretions,

0:15

which correspond to darker signal.

0:17

On the T two weight scan, we have the opacification

0:22

of the nasal cavity even into the Aries

0:24

as we've seen previously.

0:26

So this patient does have polyps,

0:29

but also has features

0:30

of allergic fungal sinusitis right on T one dark on the T

0:35

two wade scan with expansion of the perinasal sinuses

0:39

and on post gadolinium hand scan this kind

0:43

of irregular enhancement that we might be associated

0:46

with the presence of polyps in this case.

0:50

You also see there are areas where the bone is so thin

0:54

that we lose the normal periosteum dark signal intensity

0:59

on the T one weighted

1:01

and post gadolinium T one weighted scan,

1:03

and even on the T two weighted scan.

1:05

So this is very thin bone, so this is polyposis,

1:09

but this is associated with the allergic fungal sinusitis

1:13

as well as the nasal polyps which are extending even

1:17

to the anterior Aries of the nasal cavity.
