Case: Artifacts

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

So to round out this section,

0:01

this is just a really quick case to showcase

0:05

how artifacts can impact imaging

0:07

interpretation in PET scanning.

0:09

And this is the same for any imaging modality, is

0:13

that you have to be aware of the artifacts

0:14

and how they can limit what you see.

0:16

And one thing when we are looking at prostate imaging is the

0:20

impact of hip replacement.

0:21

So I've thrown, in this case, I don't want you to go through

0:24

and try and stage the prostate cancer.

0:26

That's not the point. It's just to showcase the impact

0:28

of these artifacts.

0:30

And as you can see, this is our low dose ct.

0:32

We've really got

0:33

that beam hardening artifact really

0:35

impacting the region of the bladder.

0:36

There's a couple of fiducials in situ,

0:38

you can still see some of that uptake.

0:40

So that's the purple, that's PSMA accumulation coming

0:43

through here with those fiducials.

0:44

But the impact

0:45

of these hip replacements is quite profound in this case.

0:49

Um, still able to look up higher through the abdomen

0:53

and pelvis and review the remainder of the study.

0:55

But those hip replacements are really impacting our viewing

0:59

of the pelvis and those surrounding structures.

1:01

If you are at a site that has the scanner

1:04

with metal reduction capability,

1:06

or Im r we you have it at ours now, um,

1:09

that can be really useful in terms

1:10

of correcting for this artifact.

1:12

But something to be aware of

1:13

with your imaging interpretation

1:15

and the potential that it can have on your image quality.
