So this person comes in with ring finger pain

There's a little bit of focal soft tissue swelling

about the distal interphalangeal joint.

Oblique projection shows a minimal deformity at the base

but on our lateral projection we can see

fracture fragment at the base of the distal phalanx.

Along the dorsal aspect, there is displacement

and associated soft tissue swelling.

And this is an injury known as a mallet finger.
