Cervical Lymph Nodes Level 7

0:01

Hello everyone, it's Dr. Sydney Levy here.

0:02

0:04

Today I would like to discuss level 7

0:07

of the lymph node levels of the neck.

0:10

These are actually superior or anterior mediastinal

0:14

lymph nodes and are still considered regional lymph

0:17

nodes in the context of head and neck malignancy.

0:21

Straightforward to follow, the superior

0:23

boundary of level 7, as demonstrated on these

0:28

pre-contrast T1-weighted images of the neck,

0:31

is the manubrium.

0:33

So anything below that is within 7,

0:37

and anything above it is within either

0:40

level 6, or level 4, or level 5B.

0:44

The other structure to be aware

0:46

of is the innominate artery or the

0:48

brachiocephalic trunk, which we have here.

0:53

And these lymph nodes are

0:54

considered mediastinal lymph nodes.

0:57

And we go all the way down to the origin of the

1:00

brachiocephalic trunk and the adjacent trachea.

1:03

So really, we're talking about lymph nodes that are

1:06

well and truly in the mediastinum, this region here.

1:11

And we have the trachea here as an

1:12

important landmark because most lymph

1:14

nodes are closely related to the trachea.

1:17

So that's level 7.
