Bizzarre Parosteal Osteochondromatous Proliferation

HIDE

0:00

<v ->And then finally, the last entity that I'm gonna mention,

0:05

bizarre parosteal osteochondromatous proliferation,

0:09

known as BPOP, or as Nora's lesion.

0:13

And this appears to be a spectrum of abnormality

0:18

that can occur as a response to injury

0:22

that leads to hemorrhagic change beneath the periosteum,

0:28

leading to periosteal bone formation

0:32

seen in the hands and feet.

0:35

When the periosteal bone proliferation is not very dramatic,

0:39

we may use the term florid reactive periostitis

0:43

to describe it.

0:45

But when it gets more tumor-like,

0:47

the term BPOP is used to describe it.

0:51

Again, seeing in in the hands and feet,

0:54

it appears as an ossifying mass,

0:56

often the ossification much like in myositis ossificans,

1:01

occurs at the periphery of the lesion.

1:05

It can be associated with other areas

1:07

of periosteal new bone.

1:09

Here's another case, this one again given to me

1:13

by my associate, Brady Wang, showing you

1:17

this particular bone outgrowth,

1:20

with some high signal on its surface,

1:23

soft tissue prominence, consistent with BPOP.

1:28

So, that is the last lecture for today.

1:31

We are now gonna have our cases again.

1:37

Marcelo, it is back to you.
