How to Choose Stereotactic- vs Tomosynthesis-Guided Biopsy

0:00

How do we choose whether or not to use tomosynthesis

0:04

or stereotaxis?

0:05

Um, in general, I default to

0:08

so tomosynthesis almost a hundred percent of the time.

0:11

It is faster.

0:13

We obtain fewer images, so not only is that faster,

0:16

but the patient, uh, receives a lower dose of radiation.

0:21

As I mentioned, the targets may be harder

0:23

to see on post-fire imaging,

0:25

and I also mentioned that currently

0:26

there is no billing code.

0:29

Currently I use stereotaxis, uh, for problem solving.

0:34

So if I am having trouble getting calcifications

0:38

or seeing calcifications on tomosynthesis, I default

0:42

to stereotactic imaging.

0:43

Um, I may have a better idea of where the calcifications are

0:48

and where the needle is relative to the calcifications.

0:52

Some facilities may actually not have the ability

0:55

to perform, uh, targeting under tomosynthesis,

0:57

so then they would perform under stereo taxes.
