Program Description

This course provides a comprehensive, victim centered approach to forensic evidence collection in cases of sexual assault. Learners will review best practices for trauma informed history taking, examination, specimen collection, photography, and documentation, while gaining the knowledge needed to support STI prophylaxis, pregnancy testing, and medical care for sexual assault survivors. The course outlines nationally recognized forensic standards and includes Texas specific requirements for nurses involved in sexual assault response. Designed for clinicians in emergency and acute care settings, this course equips providers with the clinical skills necessary to perform evidence collection with accuracy, compassion, and respect.
