Hamartoma - Case 1

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

In this case, we have a 61-year-old

0:04

female sending for a screening mammogram.

0:07

Image quality is good, good images.

0:12

Look just at the right breast on this case.

0:17

And looking at these SM views of the CC and

0:19

uh, MLO, um, we don't see anything that stands

0:24

out particularly, uh, in the right breast.

0:28

We switch over to the DBT images and

0:31

start at the inferior aspect of the

0:33

right breast and scroll superiorly.

0:36

When we get to this point here,

0:37

we got this area of asymmetry.

0:41

Um, and we might get the sense that there's

0:43

some, uh, fat surrounding it and potentially, uh,

0:48

encapsulated margin surrounding that area of asymmetry.

0:52

This area projects a little bit inferiorly on the

0:56

scroll bar, uh, uh, the CC view, but, uh, likely

1:03

nipple looks more inferiorly displaced on this image.

1:05

So we expect this probably is in the superior breast.

1:08

We start on the lateral side, on the MLO view.

1:12

Scroll through.

1:14

We get to this point, uh, a little bit in here where

1:17

we see, uh, something with a similar appearance here.

1:21

Thin encapsulated margins, like internal

1:25

density symmetry.

1:28

If you look at these two things in conjunction,

1:31

this looks like a fat-containing mass containing

1:34

some fibroglandular elements, uh, interspersed, and

1:38

then has a thin calcified margin around that mass.

1:41

These findings are compatible

1:42

with a benign hematoma.

1:43

Uh, no additional workup is needed, and

1:46

she can return to routine screening.
