Course Description

This Florida Laws and Rules and Professional Ethics course provides Florida-licensed osteopathic physicians with practical, applied education on ethical decision-making, professional conduct, and regulatory expectations in modern clinical practice. Drawing on Florida statutes, Board of Osteopathic Medicine standards, and real-world Florida case scenarios, the course examines core principles of medical ethics and their application to patient autonomy, informed consent, decision-making capacity, confidentiality, professional boundaries, and ethical documentation. Learners will explore common ethical risks arising from electronic health records, telemedicine, digital communication, and evolving practice environments, with an emphasis on defensible clinical reasoning and professional accountability. This course is designed to support high-quality patient care while helping physicians recognize and mitigate ethical issues that may lead to complaints, investigations, or disciplinary action under Florida law.Florida DO's: This course meets the Florida requirement of one (1) hour continuing medical education course in Florida Laws and Rules/Professional and Medical Ethics for each biennial renewal.
