Desired Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

Understand Mammographic Indications and Quality
- Explain the role of mammography in breast cancer detection, including the differences between screening and diagnostic mammograms.
- Evaluate mammographic images for quality assurance, including recognizing artifacts and positioning errors that could compromise interpretation.
Develop a Systematic Approach to Mammographic Interpretation
- Apply the BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) lexicon to categorize mammographic findings consistently.
- Identify and characterize common mammographic findings, such as masses, calcifications, asymmetries, and architectural distortions.
Differentiate Normal from Abnormal Findings
- Distinguish between benign and suspicious findings on mammography, integrating clinical history and imaging features to guide recommendations.
Formulate Management Recommendations and Communicate Effectively
- Recommend appropriate follow-up or intervention based on mammographic findings, utilizing BI-RADS assessment categories.
