Desired Outcomes

Upon completion of this activity, participants should be better able to:

  • Understand Mammographic Indications and Quality
    • Explain the role of mammography in breast cancer detection, including the differences between screening and diagnostic mammograms.
    • Evaluate mammographic images for quality assurance, including recognizing artifacts and positioning errors that could compromise interpretation.
  • Develop a Systematic Approach to Mammographic Interpretation
    • Apply the BI-RADS (Breast Imaging Reporting and Data System) lexicon to categorize mammographic findings consistently.
    • Identify and characterize common mammographic findings, such as masses, calcifications, asymmetries, and architectural distortions.
  • Differentiate Normal from Abnormal Findings
    • Distinguish between benign and suspicious findings on mammography, integrating clinical history and imaging features to guide recommendations.
  • Formulate Management Recommendations and Communicate Effectively
    • Recommend appropriate follow-up or intervention based on mammographic findings, utilizing BI-RADS assessment categories.
