Silastic-Induced Synovitis

HIDE
PrevNext

0:00

<v ->We'll finish up in the last couple of slides

0:04

but just a few other entities that I just wanna touch upon.

0:08

One of 'em is silastic-induced synovitis,

0:12

a foreign body synovitis.

0:14

And it relates to an inflammatory reaction that occurs

0:18

with a silicon related prosthesis or replacements.

0:23

And these are not used as often nowadays

0:26

as they were before.

0:28

But here's an example in which we are seeing

0:32

this implant of the lunate.

0:34

I think it might have been done

0:36

for Kienbock's disease and over time,

0:39

and this generally is over a period of months or years,

0:42

a synovitis may develop leading

0:45

to extensive joint abnormalities and cystic changes.

0:50

And although perhaps, if you looked at this quickly,

0:53

you might say, "Gee that's the worst osteonecrosis

0:56

I've ever seen," you've gotta recognize it,

0:59

that it is actually a silastic material.

1:04

Here's another one.

1:05

In this case, it was the scaphoid that was replaced,

1:09

looked again with a low signal, and over a period

1:12

of months or years, extensive joint disease

1:16

with cystic change can be seen.
